Some Background (skip to the bottom for solution)
Recently I was in a situation where I was troubleshooting a Pathway Connect Pathport system. We had a series of Pathport Nodes - 2 and 4 port - connected together with a Pathport VIA10 Gigabit POE Switch. However I could not see all nodes on Pathscape (the Pathport configuration software), and soon realised it was because some of the nodes were connected to ports which had been disabled and as I tried to enable them by the front panel (and the software), I realised the front panel lock had been enabled, which meant I could not factory reset the VIA10 switch. After a bit of trial and error I discovered the following:
To Override the Front Panel Lockout
- Power off Gigabit Switch by pulling power from the back (removing the IEC/kettle cable)
- Hold down (push in) front panel rotary knob and replug IEC cable.
- Keep rotary knob held down until the switch fully reboots.
- You will now have approximately 2 or 3 minutes to do anything that would otherwise be locked out (eg. Factory Reset)
Hopefully this helps another fellow technician, as it doesn't appear to be documented anywhere.
